Analysis is expected to begin today on the huge haul of cocaine seized on board a yacht 320km off the southwest coast.
It is expected to confirm the shipment as the biggest seizure in the history of the State - outstripping the 1.5 tonnes seized last year at Dunlough Bay in west Cork.
Three men, aged between 44 and 52, are still being questioned in relation to yesterday morning's haul.

Work will begin on stripping the 18-metre yacht on which the cocaine was seized.
Once weighed and analysed for purity it is expected to be confirmed as Ireland's biggest drug seizure.
It is understood that the shipment consists of around 70 bales of cocaine, each containing 25kg of the drug.
1.7 tonnes of cocaine could be worth as much as €700m.
The yacht, 'Dances With Waves', was registered in Britain until July of this year - then de-registered.
It was being brought to shore in Cork under armed guard and was due ashore this morning.
The seizure was the result of a joint taskforce operation code-named Seabight involving gardaí and naval and customs officers which was ongoing for a number of weeks.
