My disc has a 0.4 cms wide ring - about 0.4 cms IN from the edge of the disc.
Can this be repaired, etc. etc.
Also it freezes in the same place on the last mission every time.

It may not be a scratch, all Xbox's have them for a design, if you're positive you've dropped your Xbox or something and it does have a legit scratch they're unrepairable.
That's why we seize the moment, try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and hold it cause we consider these minutes golden.

yeah turns out it was a minor scratch that went through the middle, fixed it for 2quid
