Default My laptop keeps remembering the OLD WEP key?!

Hey guys, I'm trying to connect to my wireless router so I can be on the wireless instead of bloody wired. Everything is fine, I can connect to my router via my phone so thats all fine. When I go to type in my WEP key which is 6 digits it keeps remembering a WEP key that is 8 digits. Anybody know the problem?
    Back for a while.

Have you removed/deleted the old connections in the 'connect to' settings? That might be the reason, because it connects automatically to the last setting. Have you tried making a new connection in the network settings aswell e.g. open 'connect to' > Set up a connection.

Depends on Vista and XP. Or am I getting confused with something else?

I'm pretty sure the length that it shows in windows is a security feature. Not matter what the actual length is it always displays it as 8 characters, for instance, mine is 26 hexdecimal charcters long, but windows shows 8 blanked out characters.

Actually, you sire you're not using WPA rather than WEP? It's not possible to have a 6 character WEP key.
