You need Xbox Live to play online, so I'd say yes.

Sonic Unleashed
Gears 2 (If you like that)
Mirrors Edge
Left4Dead

Xbox live is definately worth it, buy it in the yearly package as its wholesale and cheaper.
If you've got a good spec TV I would really recommend Farcry 2, I've got it on my HD and the graphics are outstanding.
