Is there any way to stack a gate up on a petal?

Gates can't be raised off the ground, just as rollers can't. It's not an issue of people not knowing how, they just physically don't go above ground height. Your best bet is a one-way gate.

I'll try later if you want, you can stack on top of mode gates, not too sure if you can have a petal below it though.

well, if you had a one way gate, and you stacked it so there's 4 of them (each going on way) then it might work

Look, it can't be done. I'm not being obnoxious it's just that it's designed to reject the packet for a 'gate' type furni with a hieght higher than 0.0.
You can put things above gates yes (there's a guide on my group's forum [see spoiler in my sig]) but gates can't go above ground.
People might protest "There are rooms with raised/stacked gates", I know but regardless this can't be done at the moment. As aforementioned, not from lack of knowledge, mearly because they DO NOT go above height 0.0
