    Default Really annoying problem

Well I'm at my Dad's house in Spain and his internet speed is about 5meg, speedtest.net shows it as 5700KBPS. So anyway, on his laptop the internet is super fast and it all works perfectly, but on mine, sites just won't load, I have to keep refreshing them. Habbox Forum works perfectly for some odd reason, but any other site just doesn't load unless I refresh loads. It takes about ten minutes to load a page. Habboxforum is the only site I have fast access to. Now once I get something download, (like Firefox last night, took 10 mins to get to the page) it goes full speed at 570KB/s.

I just don't understand how my Dad's laptop works with the internet perfectly but on mine I can only access HabboxForum. My laptop works fine at home so does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks.

Try taking it off the WLAN and reconnecting it.

Try restarting the router and disabling/enabling the wireless connection on your laptop.

I've done all that. I can't reset the router because it's upstairs (my Dad's house is split in two) and the people living there moved out hence the fact we have the internet connection, so we don't have access to upstairs and I've tried logging into 192.168.1.1 and tried admin and pass and admin and password but nothing works!

Do you know the make/model of the router? For instance, mine tells you what it is on the login page.

Well it's 'Telefonica' branded but the make/model is Comtrend, Model CT536+

I don't think it's anything to do with the router though cos it works perfectly on every laptop but mine, it's something to do with the settings. I could do with getting into the router control panel though because I need to change some DNS settings. I'm searching the net for default passwords for Comtrend routers but none of them work. Found it, it's 1234 and 1234.

Right, I'm in and can change the DNS and stuff. On my laptop the DNS 80.58.61.250 and 80.58.61.254. Now the internet download speed is amazing but it's actually finding the host, I think it's cos it has to find the DNS server everytime. How can I fix this, I'm use OS X 10.5.6 btw.

Aha, that's the same as my router (I'm also in Spain). Try this.

    Username: 1234
    Password: 1234

It will be that if it hasn't been changed.

Are you using any 3rd party DNS servers such as OpenDNS?

I'm trying that now, I wasn't doing so though. I'm just running round a few sites to see if it has helped though.

Right here is my Speedtest.net result

As you can see the ping is pretty bad but the download speed is better than mine in the UK! I had to use the London server cos everywhere in Spain timed out. So you can see the internet is fast it's just a problem with finding the host or connecting to the DNS or something. OpenDNS didn't help much.
