Look at the Dell laptops, but for gaming you will need a dedicated graphics card (anything Intel isnt.) I know the Dell Studio can be configured with a dedicated gfx card, but you might find that it is over your budget.

The one I mentoined has a quad core, 4gb 800mhz ram, 9800GT and a pretty decent motherboard.

All for under £500. The only let down is the case really but in future you could just buy a new one if needed
