    Default University Help

Basically, i'm at the point where i need to start thinking about what i want to do at university. I know that in september 2010, I'll be going to a local university, probs newcastle or northumbria or sunderland, to get a biology degree.

After that, I want to do a PGCE course so i can teach secondary school (and sixth form) biology. But theres so many different kinds of PGCE courses available, i dont know whats what?

    Can anyone help?

I don't think you should be too worried about your postgrad course as lets face it, it's basically 5 years away atm and although that may be what you defo want to do - it's pretty likely the sort of courses available will change in the years so I wouldn't get myself bogged down on it...

Just get through uni first because in your course you may find you don't want to teach

Trust me Steph don't start thinking about your teaching course just now

Like you I wanted to be a teacher from about 10 but now I don't wanna be lol. Concentrate on the degree first and worry about the qualification later as it is really just an add-on as the degree will help you get a job if teaching doesn't work out.

On a sidenote, my sister done her PGCE for teaching at Durham uni and she loved it. Spent teaching down south for about 2 years then she moved back up to Scotland.

Good luck at whatever you choose to do Steph After the summer I'm heading into Primary schools to "observe"

I've also heard some great things about the PGCE at Durham.
