Few Problems (Long Story)

Right, I bought a piece of 1GB Ram to fit into my Advent 4211 (MSI Wind u100) - it WAS the correct RAM as I bought the one that they selected from PC world on www.crucial.com - so I open it up fine ect, few hard screws to get undone, put it in, screw it back up - fine, everything seems perfect.

But as soon as I turn it back on, it's not recognized the ram, I thought this might be due to my OS not recognizing it, so I booted into BIOS and looked at system info, and still, it says only 1024mb of ram instead of 2048mb...

So that is my first question, why isn't it recognizing it? I put it in correctly without problems.

I did try to open up my laptop - but again ANOTHER problem - I've screwed them in so tight that I can't get them undone - And I AM using the right screw driver, but now I've tried so much to get it undone, that I have actually starting rounding off my screws so that the screw driver doesn't fit in snuggly to the screw connection thingys.... I can only remove 4 of my the 9 screws that I need to get done - so that I can check the RAM is in fine.

So that leads me to my next question - how the hell do I get these screws out?

And, then... even worse a few hours later I am just on msn chatting to mates ect, all of a sudden I get a huge creeking noise (a noise that I've never heard my laptop do before) - at first I had no idea what it was so just put it as a one off, but then an hour later I realise the laptop getting hot, and it NEVER gets hot. So now I think the fan has broke inside my laptop - there is hardly if ANY air coming through the fan holes in the side of my laptop.

So that leads me to my last question - Was it my fan that was broke? Or am I just getting paranoid? it is really hot atm on my leg, and is nearly so hot that I cannot have it on my lap... and it NEVER done this before I heard the creeking noise come from my laptop... But I can't open it up because of the stupid screws...

so yeah, I'm pretty unlucky, anyone who can help me please leave replies....

You usually should only have to take 1 or 2 screws off to get at the RAM? :S Not 9 or so

With the MSI Wind there is no compartment to get to the ram, you have to take the entire underside of the laptop off to get to where the ram slot is.

I would personally take it to PC World's TheTechGuys desk and ask them to take a look.

Opening up and upgrading ram supposedly voids the warranty. I would open it up to take the RAM out so they didn't know - BUT I CAN'T .

Sorry to hear this. I don't think it would void the warranty.

Maybe you could break open the bottom by damaging the screws, take out the RAM and replace the screws with new ones.

How would I do that?

My primary concern at the moment is the fan - as I don't want my laptop breaking as I've only had it for around 6 months and I LOVE IT. I can easily fix the RAM later on when I can open the bottom up - which I'm not as bothered about.

I think people aren't posting because they arent sure. If you broke the bottom off could you get a new bottom casing? I was going to upgrade the RAM in mine but this has put me off big time
