Sound not working :x

Well im at my nans house, she got a HDTV and ive put in those plugs n everything. All the wires are connected, the TV sound does work (i tried it on some programmes), the sound is on its max, the game works, i put the wire thing on HDTV Settings, and yet the sound still doesnt work. Tried it in normal TV mode and it still doesnt work aswell

tried using a HDMI cable?

Also its the red and white plugs on composite / component cables that deal with sound to either they have broke or they have not been placed in correctly.
