Default What are your webhosts specs?

I was board and having a read through the web hosting section, and got to think as to what the habbox web developers actually do host with in the end?

Do you go for a huge spec at a high price or somewhere more in the middle ground?

To make looking through simple, it'd be great if people would follow this template

One thing I've never understood with hosting is why small sites like Habbo Fansites go for packages that are like 20GB diskspace, 1GB is probably too much. I can see why you'd want loads of bandwidth but not diskspace.

I'm not really sure, people do tend to massively overestimate there needs, i generally use the one package to host all my domains/projects so whats not used now will likely eventually fill :p (plus its helps to prevent getting caught out if you suddenly end up on a digg front page or something)

I don't know about you but I'd personally rather go with a company that doesn't promise what it can't give. I have no problem with overselling but if I have "unlimited" diskspace I expect to be able to use tens of gigabytes of diskspace which many hosts who are "unlimited" won't allow. Therefore I would go a reputable company and only buy a small amount of storage, then I know in the future if I am featured on the Digg homepage then there is room for rapid expansion.

Well, my host when I originally started with em provided 50gb diskspace and 4 TB of bandwidth, which for most sites is pretty much unlimited :p Recently i guess they decided just to go for the full Monty. Dreamhost is a very established and very large company, who've hosted plenty of sites that have made it to the front pages of digg/reddit/slashdot etc and held up without complaint.
Equally, although disk space bandwidth are unlimited, processor time isn't, which keeps its capability within reason. That said, i can seamlessly move straight to a VPS if needed, too secure whatever memory requirements i made need. So i would vouch for dreamhosts unlimitedness on the other aspects and they are very upfront with the limitation's too

They aren't my host however I recommend them as they have great reliability:

    Disk space: 1gb
    Bandwidth: 75gb
    Databases: n/a
Domains: Must use .squarespace (Better packages can use any)
    Shell access: yes
    Email: yes
    Languages: english

How long been with company: Never, want to be so mucht though
How long companys run: No idea
Any issues: Can't really happen with them
    Name of company: SquareSpace
    Price (that you pay): $8

squarespace.com, they use a site builder however it is very advanced, you can edit the CSS e.t.c. the inbuilt systems are very good

This is their full feature list (On best package):

    • Custom URL
    • 5 GB Storage (Doesn't include some stuff, basically only things which are specifically uploaded count...)
    • 400 GB/mo Bandwidth
    • URL Shortcuts
    • 6 Custom Audiences
    • Unlimited Members
    • Unlimited Editors
    • Member Subscriptions
    • Drop Box Module
    • Per-Page Stylesheets
    • HTML Injection Points
    • SSL Security
    • FAQ Builder
    • Email Template Control
    • Form Builder
    • Public Registration
The final reason for going with them (Which is the best reason), is that the only reason for downtime is if the entire internet basically turned off, they use cloud internet computing. Meaning they have hundreds of servers round the globe constantly syncing so that your site can have guaranteed 100% Uptime (Except in extraordinary circumstances).
