Im lvl 85 mining, which was my goal. If I was to give you advice it would be dont aim for 99 straight away, set smaller goals eg. aiming to be able to mine the next type of rock.

Otherwise you wont feel like you are making any head way at all, and if you find it boring take a break after you reach each goal, (a couple of days or more) and watch tv or do something else while you mine
