    Default The Dentist

I've had a toothache thats coming and going every few months now, it's been causing me pain for 4-5 years now and I was stupid not to get it fixed when it occured. I really dont want to see the dentist. I know I am going to have to face him sometime though the whole dentist feeling gives me the creeps. The waiting room, the smell, the needles, blood. I have a huge phobia of blood and needles so that doesnt help either. My tooth at the back infront of the very back molar, was weak when I was born. It decayed and became a shell of a tooth after the filling came out. I was like 10 at this time so I was walking about with the shell of a tooth and no filling, the shell eventually started to break down and yes I brush my teeth twice a day. The only thing left of the tooth is the root of the tooth and a small upper part of the shell. I've been in so much pain these last few days but I cant find the courage inside of me to go the the dentist. Call me a wimp or whatever but it's probably one of the biggest phobias I have. Anyone any tips on how to overcome this and can I be put to sleep during a tooth extraction

They won't put you to sleep just so they can pull your tooth out which will take 5 seconds, take the pain like a man and you won't have to take a needle, don't look at the blood?

You dont have a phobia of needles or blood. I gurantee you'd squeal with pain also if you got your tooth pulled without any anesthetics.

When I got my teeth extracted they gave me anaesthetics, but the needle for the injection was huge. And there wasn't really a lot of blood at the time of the extraction either. Basically what they do is give you the injection, let it settle in and then loosen it by pushing it from side to side. After it's loosened they'll wriggle it out slowly and you won't really feel a thing. I didn't feel it when it came out. Then what they do is give you a cotton ball to put in place of the tooth and absorb all the blood.

I guess what you should do is tell the dentist to do the injection on the other side of your vision or even get the nurse to cover your eyes or something.

In fact, can't you just fill it up again?

I wouldn't, I've had my arm pulled out of the socket 4 times & fractured my ankle twice, I didn't 'squeal' - they can give you painkillers, I think by law they can only put you to sleep if you're getting root canal treatment or something big such as.

Nope, my mum got put to sleep when she had 4 fillings done, as she requested it.
My tooth is really sore at the moment, dont want to take too much painkillers incase I overdose though >_<

My little brother was put to sleep whilst he had his tooth extracted, mainly because they didn't want to make him scared of the dentist when he was older.
