Im guessing your on a router, you tried resetting it? If all that fails. Contact your ISP and shout at them .

If you're using wireless, you have a router. Your internet speed depends on how far away you are from the router, how many others are connected and your ISP.

If you're not on cable, it's up to 10 megabits, with cable, it should be pretty constant, except at peek times.

Use speedtest.net to determine your speed. It's probably not your ISP's fault. If your wireless isn't password protected, anyone can connect to it and someone might be using it and downloading/uploading a lot.

Also, some ISPs slow down your speed if you upload/download too much. I don't think virgin (cable) do.

If you saw my post you would see I put a speedtest image thingy there.
Im about 6m from my router, if you go through the floor about 2.
Its password protected and there is 4 people linked to it + ipods and iphones but thats always been the way from last year untill now.

Depends how far away from your exchange you are, or how your connected to your router, if at all possible hook up your pc your downloading from to your router directly via Ethernet cable!
That ping is just incredible though, you tried retesting?

That's on cable. I think they decrease it at peek times so you never, realistically, get 10 mb. especially with 4 people connected + ipods/phones

And elliott is right, that is a very high ping. Maybe you chose the wrong server?

Yeah the ping is ridiculous. With me I usually get a stupid ping when there's something wrong with the infrastructure (maintenence, broken line somewhere etc) so maybe just wait it out for a week or so and see if its any better. If it isn't phone the ISP and complain, ping should never be that high even with the whole neighbourhood connected to your router

I looked at his ISP and it said telewest which I thought runs through a telephone line xS
    have they changed it?
Edit: Weird how your DL is lower than mine but Upload is higher, my upload is awful which is really annoying!
Edit2: I think telewest is now Virgin Media, weird how it hasnt changed his ISP, alkaz do you use cable?
