In every consoles life there is three stages:
1 - New console is released, everyone can freely purchase one for the retailed price
2 - Console is outdated by a new one and so loses its value quickly, as people look to update they sell cheaply pushing its price right down, coupled with the fact there are literally millions in circulation they are not going to sell much for quite some time
3 - (We have rarely seen this stage) Through wear and tear most consoles not being kept by collectors are damaged and broken meaning the amount of consoles in good condition lowers and they become scarce which vastly increases their selling price.

All in all... This would make a nice investment for your Great Great Grandchildren.

Look at the price of the early consoles (NES etc) to get a rough idea, I can't see the price change over time being much different from the NES.
