    Default Yellow Teeth??

Ok, well maybe not yellow, but off white definitely. Why??

I clean twice a day with whitening toothpaste, mouthwash, a good toothbrush and even sometimes a whitening kit... but still they stay beige.

It drives me insane. Whitening professionally is way too expensive, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any nice tips on whitening teeth.

I don't drink coke nor coffee, since it stains, and I am going to see the hygineist soon... but is there any of those "products" that really do work?

Can't stand them being off white. May as well just save some money and get me some veneers lol!

Ermm, I don't really know what other advice to give other than try using mout whitening trays which you can get fairly cheap.

My teeth are white, I brush them just as another other person with regular tooth paste lol, I drink tonnes of tea and coke, and I have to say I don't always brush my teeth twice a day - lol. Just try brushing for longer, use mouth wash etc.

How long have you been brushing your teeth for?

Doesn't happen overnight and It's 60% diet 40% what you do next to the sink which determines how white your teeth are

Also, its not just the obvious drinks that rot, discolour teeth, things like cordial do this just as much as coke etc. Things like tomatoey based foods will stain teeth to.

And, try something like pro-namel, its meant to restore the enamel on your teeth so maybe that will help whiten them and in between brush your teeth after everything you eat and drink if thats possible.

The enamel on your teeth is porous so things like fizzy drinks and coffee stain the dentin underneath the enamel. Dentin is naturally a somewhat yellow colour anyway so enamel erosion can make your teeth appear more yellow. Whitening toothpastes do nothing because they aren't on your teeth for an extended period of time, not to mention the active ingredient is normally calcium which does nothing in the way of whitening.
Ways that actually work involve bleaching the dentin with some form of peroxide, can't remember which. The most common of these treatments are strips which you apply to your teeth for about half an hour each day and the strips are just coated with peroxide which bleaches your teeth over time (http://www.crestwhitestrips.co.uk/infocentre.asp)
The other most common method is one where you wear a gumshield which is basically filled with peroxide to the same effect as the strips. The benefit of the gumshield is that it's molded specifically to your teeth so you get better coverage than the strips (the strips, being uniform rectangular strips, don't compansate for the fact that some teeth may go higher into the gums than others. The gumshield obviously does compansate for this).
Also veneers cost about £1000 per tooth or something along those lines so you wouldn't really be saving money!

Since you are brushing two times a day, you can make it three times a day for at least 3 minutes.
Don't brush too hard and use a soft bristle toothbrush.
If you drink coke or tea be sure you've rinsed your mouth after.
Try to use crest strips whitening kit.

Thanks so far for the replies!

Just to clear it up, almost all I ever drink is water. It is really rare that I have something sweet (I don't like the fizzy ones).

When I do brush, I am thorough, and take a good few mins to finish. I'm not a big eater either, so I don't have much sugary or artifical foods at all.

They aren't really yellow, just like a bit off white, which drives me completely insane lol! Must have shimmering white teeth lol!

Thanks for the advice, FYI I have followed it and just purchased a crest whitening strips kit from the internet. When I complete the 7 day course I shall let you all know of my results!

    Thanks,
    Star

P.S. Can anyone reccomend a good whitening toothpaste and mouthwash that seems to work? Cos I am using Sensodyne whitening foam with listerine whiten mouthwash (it tastes like paint stripper lol!). But neither seem to affect my teeth at all.
