    Default Microsoft partners with Yahoo

This news is a couple of days old but this forum is kind of devoid of decent threads atm!

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10...?tag=mncol;txt

Microsoft has partnered with Yahoo to, amongst other things, put its Bing search on Yahoo's homepage, replacing Yahoo search. With Bing's recent momentum (taking a percentage point of the search engine market from Google this week) and Yahoo still being one of the most visited sites on the web, this could actually make Microsoft's search engine popular after god knows how many years of trying.

Good thing or bad thing? I suppose if someone's going to take Google down, this pair have the best chance of doing it.

They will never take Google down no matter how hard they try, it's good for Google as they like a bit of competitiveness.

I agree. To be fair to both of them, they both have a strong hold on the market, and should be willing to keep competing but accept it will not damage any profits or anything other than one of theirs reputation.

It won't affect any of them at all, I've used Bing I prefer google. but I doubt i'll get the ChromeOS when its released. See what i'm getting at?

Bing, Yahoo have never met Google's SE standards. Google SE is basic, clear, accurate and easy to use. I don't want to have stupid backgrounds everyday. (Fair enough to Google for changing a little logo on special occasions, I like that).

www.bing.com is simple to go to sure but I hate the intro and the search results layout. Yahoo, I don't want to type http://uk.search.yahoo.com/ everytime I want to go to there search engine or go to yahoo.com to find it. Again I don't like the results layout as much.

Now Google, we've used it for years, it is integrated into millions of peoples mind and young children when they are told to use it in schools. It becomes your 'only' SE because it does what it needs you to do. Simple and gives you many options. The years Google have to peoples minds, Bing and Yahoo will never have. End of.

A test to those who still are unsure. Ask yourself if you had to use a search engine what would you type into your address bar?

I strongly agree with your post. I've used Google since day one.

What people need to do is just give new search engines a chance, change all their settings to use it for just a week then see what they think, after that, then fair enough if they don't like it (yes I stole this from the Diggnation podcast).

I really like Bing tbh, it's funny how the info boxes on the images are actually fairly interesting, and Bing's image and video searches are just amazing!
