When did glasses you can't see through become popular?

Did I miss a sudden new fashion? I can't see the purpose for these glasses, or why people use them. Did I miss something or am I just lame? What happened?

It's allegedly a style of sorts. At the least it's part of the style referred to as 'hipster'. If you don't know of it, for the most part it is where people dress trying to be different often wearing retro clothes, random clothes which don't match and impractical items such as the aforementioned sunglasses. You'll know such a person when you see them and they aren't hard to find despite their longed after originality. See this website for perfect examples of hipsters in action;

They were popular in the 80s and Kanye West wore some recently and they're now a retro fashion. That's all there is to it.

A lot of people in my year wear them cause they think they're fashionable, they're not fashionable, it's like River Island fashionable. I hate seeing boys wearing them, especially the pink ones. What happened to men being men???
