HDD not detected

Hey guys,

I turned my computer on this morning like I normally do. Noticed that the BIOS couldn't detect my SATA hard drive :/. So, I opened it up, unplugged it, replugged it in. Unplugged everything from the back and left the power and keyboard and DVI plugged in. I then turned it back on with the same problem. So fair enough, I'm guessing its bust? Oh and another thing due to it can't be detected it won't let me into the setup/boot menu unless I unplug it.

Is there any actual way to see if it’s fully bust? I guess I could try it on another PC but I would have to go around to someone’s house.

Mine did this a while ago when we had a power cut, unplug EVERYTHING including stuff from the motherboard, then plug it all back in and reset the BIOS by unplugging the power and removing the BIOS battery

Try a different slot on the motherboard.
If that doesn't work, try on a different computer (make sure it supports big HDDs).
If that doesn't work the HDD is broken, If it works - your motherboard is causing problems (could be bios update, or its just broken).

I got him to reset the BIOS, try the HDD in his other PC etc, the HDD appears dead to his other computer too so he's got a new HDD

is the drive spinning up at all.. e.g is power getting to it. How old is the computer/ hdd.

The HDD powers up, you can feel and hear it. Just doesn't detect at all. Had to go in the end to buy a new one. Oh and the computer is less then a year old.
