Nothing is as good as Microsoft Word in my opinion but there is alternatives, Open Office being a good one and Google Docs is okay as well but lacks some features.

Providing you have a Google or Gmail account you can use Google Docs on the web so that might be a good choice for you, which reminds me...

Microsoft do a version of MS Office including Word on the web, it's meant to be good. Works with any Hotmail/Live account:

Office Live when it launches next year. (Online version of Office, slightly less features, nearly as good)

Oh that's true actually, it's only for saving and sharing documents atm rather than editing and creating them.

OpenOffice came with my laptop as standard and I can't remember why but I hated it.
