    Default Grandparents

Right this is a bit confusing, so try read it properly to understand.

I rarely see my grandparents, who live in Angola (they are Portuguese, Angola is a Portuguese colony). Although when I get there, there is little to do, no big shopping centres etc.

Now, I don't completely hate not having that, I can just cope. But what is annoying is the curfew, my grandparents have security on the gates of our house and on the house, aswell whereever I or they go. You got to be inside before it gets dark because of safety and because its 'dangerous'. Now, I understand but i'm not gonna lie, the house is opposite the beach and I don't see nothing dangerous. Maybe i'm not there long enough to witness it but yeah. Other than that, my grandparents do have a driver for wherever, I or they go, with the stupid guards/security with us. These aren't the average security either, they are patheticly armed which really just scares the living **** of out of me.

Now, this really annoys me, I can't go out or have some partys at night because you got to be in, everywhere I go I got stalkers on me. I just don't want to go back there and visit them because of these reasons, which probably are pretty selfish of me but I can't stand it.

I hate all of it, I don't mind speaking with the employees who work in the house cause some of them are nice and so on but again, thats WITHIN the house premises.

It seems to be ruining the relationship between my grandparents & they are always asking me to come visit them. I am always thinking of selfish excuses or pathetic ones, which I hate and always plays on my mind.

I hope to be booking a ticket in the next week to fly out for 2-4 days MAX. But this time, I'm going to bring a mate or two along, it might keep my company. Although i'm doubting it because they are like 'omg, you got a driver, security?!' and think they are gonna be disappointed about the strict curfews and rules.

But anyway, any ideas on how to sort this problem out, it isn't their fault, they are thinking about my security and a lot of people recognise me when I get to my grandparents house, it's like they are the mayor of the town because of the funding they put in the town which I think is why the risk of security is a threat.

I just want to be able to want to visit my grandparents regularly, no doubts, no negative thoughts or whatever but to enjoy them having the company of me & vice versa.

For those who are going to go thats luxury or whatever, yeah the house is nice aswell as having all these things but trust me, it isn't after a few times. Unless you can entertain yourself within a house a lot then your going to hate it.

obviously with them living there they are going to know more about how "dangerous" it is so i reckon you should just listen to them, no matter what you say anyway if you have to be in for a certain time for security reasons i doubt they're going to change it when you're over there staying..

should be better with some mates though, just have a game of guess who or something..

Lmao thank you, the house is equipped out with everything consoles etc but really, go there to just play board games/pc/consoles?

I guess again, I should just be there to visit my grandparents and thats all, spend my time with them most of the time and other times well I guess the 360 could fill... still it isn't the most exotic of ideas.

    Thanks anyway, good game btw

Hm... Angola, My dad's from there. You should bring a friend or two, maybe they think it's not safe when it's nighttime.

Same as me, my Dad is from Angola & Mum England.

Have you ever been to Angola? If so, did you have curfews? What the security say are 'Too dangerous when its dark' and 'You are known very well around here, prime target for ransom' etc... which I really wouldn't want to know. To go there thinking I am being guarded because I could be kidnapped is a horrible thought, which is why you can understand my hesitation of going there.

Just go, your grandparents won't always be there so you should spend as much time with them as possible
May I ask why you'd be a prime target for ransom?

Erm its a bit personal... but its all about money. Not just PARTICULARY me, family who live there aswell but not being familiar to the place, makes me the easy out of the lot if you get me.

But yeah, it's money within the family. You'd have to be there to understand + I prefer not to shout it out over a forum post .

When i lived in Kenya for a year my dad had to pay the local police to escort me EVERYWHERE. they even had an officer follow me in school even though it was like a massively guarded compound with no way of getting in

life is hard. you should want to visit them. if it's dangerous, it's dangerous. if there is a curfew, stick to it. it might be boring, but you won't be saying that when they're gone. sorry to be blunt but yeah.

That was the same for me weirdly enough :S but my security is followed in to the UK. Not as much thank god because the security we are with carry out a threat assessments in Cambridge, so when the risk of threat is high then I get a bit stalked when its low they are just at the house on-call. But yeah, that life you had is what it's like when i'm there.

Did you find it a BIG invasion of privacy as well? I feel really uncomfortable around them but at the end of the day, they are putting there life on the line for me, so I have gotta come to facts that I need to live with it and just get used to it. Just fustrating that the second I land is the second I lose my personal space. Off the plane straight into a car, most lamest thing ever.

No need to be sorry, its got to be said and if it isn't then I could be stupid and not come back. I think I will, a few mates coming along just hope they are happy with PC, Eating like pigs and the 360. Obviously beach during day and stuff.

    Thanks anyway.
