Unlocking US iPhone?

I travel to America soon, and I've noticed AT&T selling the iPhone 3G 16Gb for $99. If I bought this, could I unlock it in the UK and use it on my existing contract (with Vodafone)?

Oh, I guess they can in this country but I dont really know how they do it so they might not be able to do it with an American network. Go to that yahoo forum thing and ask on there

You might want to check up on the 3G frequencies of AT&T and the ones for Vodafone UK, also the iPhone for 99$? Sounds like a contract to me...

But Google "iPhone dev team" and you'll find the jailbreak and unlock.

Err, they were selling them on pay as you go or whatever that is over there. I'm sure they were.
