    Hi,

ill be getting a new phone soon and its out of the HTC hero and the Samsung Omnia

The only thing stopping me from getting the HTC would be that the samsung has windows mobile

is it worth getting a phone because of the windows mobile?
it also has all the other features i want but i prefer the htc.

    Whatever ;p

I personally prefer Windows Mobile but to be fair the two aren't all that different, they are both just as capable as each other. Android has a better range of apps for the moment and the interface is a bit more slick. I prefer Windows Mobile due to it's built-in applications such as portable Outlook, synchronization with Windows, facebook integration and WLM. The range of phones for Windows Mobile is also a lot better than the range of Android phones.

Android has Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Bebo etc etc widgets, apps etc that can run in the background or do whatever For WLM you get Palringo, Meebo, IM+ or eBuddy and it syncs everything with your Google account

    It also has email clients

Android has more and more phones coming out for it all the time and is extremely customisable, more so even with the amount of ROMs you can get for it that have huge improvements over the stock stuff.

Android may well be partly open but Windows Mobile has a much bigger and more established ROM Developers community. Much like Android there's plenty of ROMs with huge improvements over stock stuff.

The portable WLM is far better than any other third-party clients (That's also the case with Desktop WLMs).

WiFi would be fine, but really you want internet connectivity for either of the devices, you can pick your own Facebook application on Android, and a very good one is Bloo which I use daily.

Partly open? 99% of it is open source! Only the Google applications are closed source!

I cant say I have used WinMo's WLM application, but I really like the Palringo IM client.

I also recently grew accustomed to AndroidIRC, THE best mobile IRC client, EVER.
