Thumbs up Noctua U12P ~ CPU Cooler

    Hi,

SInce my CPU was hitting temperatures of 60C IDLE, I had to buy a new fan.

After looking at the Arctic Extreme Cooler, stock fan and the Noctua U12P fan, the reviews all pointed to the - rather ugly - Noctua U12P fan.

All I can say is EXCEPTIONAL.

My temperatures this morning with my standard stock intel fan installed:

    Core 0 - 58C
    Core 1 - 55C
    Core 2 - 60C
    Core 3 - 60C

My temperatures now with the Noctua U12P Fan installed:

    Core 0 - 25C
    Core 1 - 24C
    Core 2 - 36C
    Core 3 - 38C

In one case that means the Noctua fan has decreased my temps by a fantastic 31C!

    ----

All be it, the stock intel fan did have two pins damaged so it did not sit extremely close to the CPU (1/2mm further away from the CPU), but still 31C is a great drop.

Although the fan does have a high price (£35-£50), I would reccomend this to ANYONE.

I've got the arctic extreme cooler and my CPU has never hit over 40, ever.

EDIT: Hang on thats a lie, I just checked my fan settings and its 41 degrees... but then, in my defence, my computer has been on for 6 days nonstop lol.

10c difference between the two sets of cores... you don't have it seated properly.

I agree and he probably didn't have the stock cooler seated properly either by those temps as stock clocks.

Hahahaha well done on being a failure at reading,

All be it, the stock intel fan did have two pins damaged
And the only reason those pins got damaged is because I had to turn the power off one day, because of a burning smell (CPU overheating) - oh and wait that was with the stock.

Nonono! I have nothing against the freezer cooler - just reviews rated the Noctua very slightly higher. I am a fan of the freezer one too Looks a very good cooler!

    Patience

EDIT: Same as I said to Stephen Nick. But the only reason it got damaged is I had to take it off due to burning.

How is he being a failure at reading? Core 0 and 1 are mid 20's. Core 2 and 3 are mid-high 30's. That's over 10 degrees difference meaning it's likely not on properly.

And I missed the bit about stock pins being damaged (how did you manage that?), but that won't affect this cooler .

Yeh but the attraction to the Arctic one is you don't need to take everything out for a backplate do you?

I had to take my pc apart this afternoon! Although as reviews said - the end result is great.

Had to tak pc apart, get the backplate on then put it back together again

And I love you! I have the CM Storm Scout too - God knows what size case they want the Arctic freezer in then

Damn Noctua HSF's are ugly things but I am told that they are beasts of a cooler.
