In my opinion, MM is pretty much worthless at your gear level. It really starts to shine above SV when you're getting decked out in HM Ulduar/ToC10/25 gear, especially when you've got a 186+ dps ranged weapon for Chimera.

Just work on upgrades for your gear. Grind heroics, get conquest and buy t8 helm and chest as the 2set bonus is really good. Although with ICC on the Horizon you can just wait, grind heroics for Triumph and buy non-set shoulders and t9conq gloves and legs (for another nice 2set).

Theres much more advice to be given, but I'd suggest looking on wowhead or something for easily accessible upgrades.

If you're only doing 1.5k dps with that gear you definitely need to make sure your rotation is right. Obviously do what charles said first and find the SV rotation.

Oh, on the topic of rotations as a hunter. I'd suggest you download Watcher, it's very simplistic and helps alot if you're struggling with DPS. It basically has the abilities on a sliding bar and when they reach the end then it's time to use them. Very easy to use!

    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...shotwatch.aspx

To set it up, press Esc. and press Interface. Press the Add0ns tab and click Watcher.
    (http://img97.imageshack.us/i/watcher.jpg/) if you're unsure

From there, go to Primary spec and put this in the drop down menus accordingly.

    1) Kill Shot
    2) Explosive Shot
    3) Black Arrow
    4) Aimed or Multi Shot
    5) Serpent Sting (Make sure it's always up)
    6) Steady Shot

Thats your standard 'rotation' if you can call it that, it basicaly lists your priority in shots during combat. Try it out on a target dummy if you're a bit lost
