Maths..

Quite annoyed really.
I've never been REALLY good at Maths,
I don't think many people are, but a few are quite good with it.

So, I finally started to boost my confidence, and finally become better at maths, until i come home today and find I have had a letter sent to my parents about me.

Saying the following:

"I am writing to inform you that the progress that Marie is making in maths is well below what we would expect.

As Marie is doing courseowork and other things for maths this year it will be 30% of her grade and aswell as her exam being held in March 2010 is is essential we work together to try and improve her progress.

Would you therefore contact us by phone or email as soon as possible to arrange an appointment with myself and the head of department.

Yours sincerely.
Mrs R Ademuwagun (Mrs Addie)"

This is aload of crap!

For 1) I am doing FINE in maths and i am doing the standard amount
of work set.

2) You could just turn around because someone calls ur name and she will totally pick on you and shout right you have a detention! etc.

Its kinda obvious she picks on me. Last Friday i walked into maths and she goes:
"Why didnt u come to your lunch detention"
I was like... what lunch detention? She goes, I wrote it in ur planner, and I said she didnt so she asked to see it. It wasnt there, so she told me to come back to her at lunch the following monday.
I told her i dont nothing wrong and she said i had, so i asked what?
She wouldnt tell me, so I didnt bother going.
She picks on alot of other people in the class, and just doesnt listen!
I think im gonna totally fail at maths this year!

Everyone says they're doing fine at school, unwilling to face the truth. Honestly, the "standard amount of work set" isn't enough for somebody who isn't particularly strong at a subject. Unless you're getting everything correct in the work that you do, it isn't enough. The teacher can set an exercise of 20 questions for homework, which may or may not be "standard", but if you're getting none of them correct, you obviously have problems and should do more work.

I'm like this at the moment, maths is the only subject im underachieving in
even though it's one of the topics i actually work hard in. Lolol

Obviously if she's picking on you, she must know you're struggling or something. Go see her one lunch time (or whenever ) and ask her why she thinks your progress is low and if she can help you change that.
Cause if you do that, then she'll know you're interested in actually stepping up and doing something about it.
I understand that you're probably not struggling, but at least it'll let her know?

Have you maybe thought of getting a tutor? Thats what I did when i was struggling with Organic Chemistry and it helped immensely. Also, if you do more than just the standard set of problems it'll help - like do a lot of extra problems and you'll understand it better and do well enough that she'll hopefully leave you alone and stop picking on you.

I suggest speaking to your parents regarding this and see what they think of what you have posted here. If it’s true that she picks on you for nothing then you could do a formal complaint. I can see where the letter is coming from due to Maths being very important. They will want you to get you anything C or above these days. Sometimes you may think you are doing amazing in a lesson but really the teacher knows what your strengths and weaknesses are so maybe you aren't doing all that well. I wish you all the best though, I also hate Maths.

Another thing: If you're working harder and the teacher realises, her expectations of you would obviously be higher. However, if you're not improving, your progress would obviously be "well below what she would expect". Having things against her isn't going to help. You might as well see her in private and establish where you two stand right now, then carry on from there and see whether or not she can help you improve.

well you could take my approach i took at your age... dont go to school.... bully people to do your coursework.. get a C.. and end up at uni lol
