A question regarding gay & lesbians

Hey,
Before I start I know there's allot of gay and lesbian teens on this forum and I'm not here to insult you I'm just asking a simple question as I'm a little confused with how it works.

Ok in-case some of you don't know lol, Well a lesbian is a female who only likes someone of the same gender, Same if your gay but the genders change.



So I was curious if your gay or lesbian surely that means you like the same gender because of the sex, It can't be because of someone's personality as everyones different. I do understand people can't choose who they like however that would mean that person would be bi-sexual, but to say your gay or lesbian states your only attracted to the same gender as yourself, is this because of the sex? I know its a little confusing and thinking back I did confuse myself somehow along those lines lol, but you just need to think of it logically and you'll understand.


So the question short and sweet
Are Lesbians and gays only attracted to the same gender because of how they like there sex?

I'm straight but have a lot of gay friends (I live in Brighton), and they all tell me that the sign that someone is gay is if they are "emotionally attracted" to the same sex, i.e. they could fall in love with another guy, rather than sexual attraction.

It is down to sexual attraction I think, afterall if you only liked guys how would you be able to have sex with a woman? - you wouldn't. The emotional part is often used to make teens feel better about themselves because they go 'i'm attracted to guys but I could never love a guy' - well many straight people don't want relationships either, it doesn't make them gay.

Hey, I'm Bi-Sexual so I kinda know what it is but its hard to put into words, but its basicaly like you said we can't choose who we like, and that is it really, We all have are likes and dislikes, so with Gays they dnt realli find woman that attractive but they do like men, and Vice versa.

It's the same as a straight guy having male friends, you see the male as only a friend, and however strong that feeling gets he's just a friend as the sexual attraction is not there, so i guess sexual attraction does play a strong part, no matter how many times people say "oh, I don't focus on looks, I focus on personality" it's not going to be true, as lovely as a world that doesn't focus on appearance is, the fact of the matter is, it's not reality.

Well I guess the same question could be asked to straight males and females. What attracts you to the opposite sex? Its just the same for gay people, but they simply feel that same attraction - whether its sexual or emotional, or both - but applied to the same gender.

Thats probably a yes. I dont even know but if i imagined me liking the same sex then i couldn't think of any reasons why. It's probably a different view from their side as they might think that the same sex are generally more common with them.
