Default Carling Cup Recap & Semi Final Draw

Hey guys, this is my article which should be published on FlameHabbo shortly. Read and comment Also post your views on the CC cup this week and who will go into the final and win!

In the Carling Cup this week, we've seen how 8 teams can be quickly reduced into 4, as Manchester United, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers won their matches in the quarter finals to advance into the Semi Finals. The Semi-Final draw was announced shortly after 9:45pm.

    CC RESULTS:

    Manchester United 2 - 0 Tottenham
Darren Gibson got Old Trafford roaring after putting United up 2-0 in the first half with two pretty decent goals. United held on as Tottenham had their chances to score on several occasions, with Tomasz Kuszczak making some key saves, including a reaction save from David Bentley.

    Portsmouth 2 - 4 Aston Villa
A game with plenty of goals is gutting if you cant watch it, and for those who did miss it, you missed a good tie. Stiliyan Petrov opened the scoring after the 10 minute mark, sadly it was an own goal which gave Pompey a 1-0 lead. Before the break, Aston Villa were on top with goals from Emile Heskey and James Milner. In the 74th minute, Villa were 3-1 up, thanks to debutant Stewart Downing who headed home Ashley Youngs cross. As the game was near the 90 minute mark, Kanu got a goal back for Pompey, this raised belief for a few seconds as Ashley Young secured the Semi Final sport for Villa.

    Manchester City 3 - 0 Arsenal
When Arsenal loose, you always think "really?". As you all know, Wenger plays his reserve team on Cup games to give them experience and they really were taught a history lesson. The youngsters did well in the first half, aggrevating City, but just before half time Carlos Tevez opened the scoring after capturing the ball back off Rosický 30 yards from goal, skipped around a few defenders and scored a beauty, coming off the crossbar and post. Next up was Wright-Phillips who stored a 2-0 lead, after finishing fanatically in the top corner - keeper really had no chance. Late on, Vladimir Weiss scored to ensure City make the Semi's.

    Blackburn 4 - 3 Chelsea on Penalties (3-3 AET)
Rovers started impressivly, after Pascal Chimbonda crossed in a ball to Nikola Kalinic, who gave a 1-0 lead to the home side. At the interval, Didier Drogba was subbed on, and in the space of a few minutes, he levelled. It was soon 1-2, as Kalou slotted home a second. Rovers refused to surrender and Brett Emerton scored a lucky equaliser. It finished 2-2 after normal time.
In Extra Time however, there were more goals. Benni McCarthy got the home side on top after scoring a penalty, which sent the goalkeeper the wrong way. Late on, Robinson made a 'Goalkeeping Howler' from a cross, and it fell nicely too Paulo Ferreira as he scored to make it go to penalties. Paul Robinson was a villain-come-hero in the space of 15 minutes in the penalty shootout, saving two penalties from Ballack and Kakuta, which sent Blackburn Rovers into the Semi's and home happy.

    The Semi Final Draw:

    Manchester City vs. Manchester United
A game you can't afford to miss, guarenteed goals in my opinion. A feirce Manchester derby to see who advances into the Final.

    Blackburn Rovers vs. Aston Villa
Both sides were impressive this week in the cup, and I think this is going to be a right tough old game. I could see this being settled thanks to a penalty shootout.

The Semi Final Draw is set to take place in the first week of January.
