    Default is this a good idea?

    i know im probably thinking about this way too early but well basically im doing a national diploma btec in visual arts and design
    a bit of a mouthful i know

    and then im doing as maths on the side.

    im in year 12
    i can continue maths through to A2 if i want but im thinking of taking up as photography next year as its something i would like to specialise in and then dropping maths

    but then id end up with a btec and 2 as levels and i dont think that looks as good as having one full a level.

    i really like maths though its a real contrast to all the art i do so i really enjoy it
    but i want to get into photography and i dont feel i know enough about it as ive never studied it

    any ideas :{

    Does your BTEC not cover photography at all? I'd have thought it would at least do an introduction so that you'd be able to pick it up later. As for what you continue with next year you're quite right in that an A level is better received than two AS's, but if you're going into an art field that might not be a problem anyway really. That said, you may be better off finishing maths and then getting some work experience for photography if it's available, as the more artistic routes tend to prefer work experience to academic achievements and you'd definitely be set on the way with a visual arts diploma.

    If you're wanting to continue on to university level after college then obviously you need to take into account uni entry requirements more than what employers look for, but that's down to where you want to end up which I obviously can't say

    Thanks for your advice!! they said we do some photography in terms 3 and 4 so I will see how they go and yeah i think you are right about the experience thing. I am hoping to do some work exp at the end of the year in a photography studio and I will try to build up more of a photography. I just am worried I dont know the technical side of photography but yeah Ill see how it goes in my btec!

    Thanks

    Do you want to go to uni? If so, what to study?

    I'd recommend looking at what Uni's want for what courses you want to do, I mean in all fairness I dont think you doing two AS's will be frowned upon as I imagine the bulk of your grades will be based on the level of your diploma, so the extra A level or 2 AS levels could just count in terms of UCAS points, but people I know who have done/are doing Photography A level hated it, like Tom said it'd be weird for your visual arts course not to include photography.

    BTEC really confuses me. I'm doing it in science and business and i realised applied was probably better for me. I'm not sure what i can do next year until i know what these subjects cover. But i'm gonna speak to conexions or school welfare. Maybe you should too
