Default Is a BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners recognized by universities?

Is a BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners recognized by universities?

I think I want to do a degree in Information and communications in university, but is that btec diploma recognized? It says on my college website it is equivalent to 3 a levels, but will universities accept me with it? I have checked on the ucas website for universities such as birmingham which does the course i'd like to do, but i'm confused it does mention about a btech diploma but says

BTEC National Diploma (18 units) (not including Early Years)

Acceptability Acceptable on its own & combined with other qualifications
    Required grades Distinction, Merit, Merit
    Subjects and grades required Engineering

So i'm not sure whether to just do 3 standard a levels in ICT, Business studies and psychology instead?

Nope, they do recognise it, i'm in the second year of doing it at college, i'm not going to uni, but most of the year are, so they definitly recognise it
If you do take the course though, prepare for a stupid amount of writing explaining the same point multiple times. Personally I hate it, but i'd put that down to my tutors being crap, rather than the actual course
This is our situation and we're happy to be here,
I wouldn't change this place for anything.

It's recognized at everywhere except Oxbridge essentially, but certainly looked at with snobbery at the higher up universities. For something like IT, perhaps it will work to your advantage as it is very practically orientated. So basically as long as your dream isn't Oxbridge and you have an outstanding reference and personal statement (and obviously good module results!) you should stand a good chance.
    I'm defying gravity.

I'm now at university in Worcester. I'm not around on here much, but PM/e-mail me if you wish.
