I'm attending my Grandad's funeral on Thursday and he is being cremated. I have never been to one before and I'm really not sure what to expect. I have this idea that it's going to be rather upsetting compared to a burial.

    Can anybody enlighten me?

It will be carried into the the church and there will be a service with music, maybe hymns or something that he liked. The vicar will say lovely things about him, say some prayers and then wish him well on his final journey. Some others may also pay tribute to him. If you have been to a burial then you will know that it ends with the coffin being lowered into the grave. At a cremation curtains just close in front of the coffin or it just moves down a bit and the curtains close. Nothing else happens so there is nothing to be scared of but I you will obviously be upset because you are saying goodbye to your Grandad. Think of it as celebrating his life and not his death. I wish you all the best and RIP Grandad. =]

At my uncles one the a vicar spoke about him and his hobbies sums up his lifes journey, Idk if this is a strictly catholic thing but the catholics in the church are bread or something idk why they do it but they did, then at the burial the vicar says more things my cousins chuckes roses onto the coffin whilst it was lowerd into the ground then that was it.

In my own experience, the coffin just disappeared behind some curtains instead of the lowering into a grave.

yeah curtains close and you carnt see the coffin anymore, its realy upsetting because it gives the impression your never going to see whoever it is again.
at least thats what i thought, its like you can go to a grave and feel asif they're there, but when somebody gets cremated, its not the same.
sorry to hear about your loss, hope your fine on the day.

My nan's cremation was last year (she died august). Pretty upsetting tbh. The coffin gets carried in and placed at the front of the room, there was a picture of her in front of the coffin which I couldn't look at without feeling like I wanted to cry my eyes out. Sing hymns and a short story of her life was read out. Then at the end we had 'Eva Cassidy - Fields Of Gold' playing as the curtains closed which was nice but upsetting.

Overall I'd say it is more upsetting than a burial
