Default More than just a Potato - Ends 16th April

    The Potato.
For many years it has been a side on our plates, or the entire meal.
The potato was first introduced to Europe by Spain in 1536, and belongs to the Solanaceae Family.
The first potatoes were grown in Peru in South America.

    Fascinating!
Ok I'll be honest I made half of that up and I want you to do the same in this competion.
Find a boring item (it could be a vegetable, a piece of furniture or just an old hankey)
describe the item as much as you can with interesting information (feel free to make it up) and convince me you know everything about it in less than three sentences!

Did you know that if you ate Cabbage each day for a month, you would lose at least 10% of your weight (baring in mind that you shout have a normal diet). This happens because the cabbage reacts with the waters in your body, and as cabbage is 90% water, this produces more water meaning that you lose more wasted products in excretion.

Tables were first invented in 370BC by a man named Alanias Wake. Alanias Wake was a craftsman and built something which was originally meant to be used as a toilet, subjects would come and sit on the object and just do their business on it, and because it held objects so well, and it was easy to remove objects, you could just clean the table easily. According the the Greek Mythologer, Richard Caine, Alanias Wake was fascinated in many things, and animals were one of them, he especially loved four-legged animals and he's prototype for the table consisted of a stuffed lion which people would simply just sit on and then do their business on, Julius Caesar was the first roman emperor to ever use the table and he replaced it from the conventional hole in the ground. However, this time instead of using wooden tables, as they had caused many injuries with the people who were using them, however they were very cheap, Julius Caesar ordered Alanias Wake's great great great grandson to build him one out of Marble, his name was Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis or better known as Cato the Younger. Marcus has continued his great great great grandfather's work, which was becoming worldly recognised and one of the most prominent inventions of the time. Cato the Younger created the marble table for Julius Caesar, and named it 'the table' as formerly the table had been called aēdēs, which now translates to unpleasant, the word table derives from the Ancient Greek taabeē, which meant, four legged creature, as originally it was thought that the table was a four legged machine. The original table can still be seen at the Palazzo Corsini in Rome, and is thought to of taken 7 years to make. The Prototype table is still in use to this day, and the President of Italy, Silvio Burlosconi has the astonishing artefact in his private quarters in the Palazzo Farnese in Rome.

    Default The mushrooms history

Did you know that a mushroom have spots because they have little warriors who live on them?
In 37000 BC there were men who were warriors and they used to wear mushroom shaped helmets so they carved the mushroom plants to look like there helmets.
The green mushroom (only grown in the heart of Eqpyt) are so vile because they used special carving knives which they had to put up a dead pigs nose to make holy enough to eat.

    Did you know... ?

+The broccoli was founded by Dr Broc Ollison of the National Iced Gems Foundation in 1539.
+Little is known about this extra-ordinary vegatable, exept the fact the broccoli istelf has not always been green - In fact, it was absolutely colourless!
+It is said that broccoli turned green due to over appeal, "what" you may say, well as broccoli became the new craze of the 1540's, the vegetable decided it would rather be noticed - that's right - the broccoli is ALIVE and has decided to change its colour from green once again, henseforth...

Beans were first found in 1329 by Mr Bean in France. They have been sitting on the edge of our dinner plates for many years. They come in a variety of colours; Green, orange, pink, blue etc.
In 1578 a man called Sir Beanalot was eating a bean, and he didnt realise that the end of the plant was still on it (he was blind) so he swallowed it. The next day he started puking up beans, but then he sadly died. This is why people encourage blind people not to eat beans.

    Eraser

Erasers are made from synthetic (fake) rubber.
On March 30, 1858, Hymen Lipman of Philadelphia, USA, received the first patent for attaching an eraser to the end of a pencil.
Prior to the invention of the rubber eraser, tablets of wax were used to erase lead/charcoal marks from paper.
