    Default New Car?

I really want an Acura TSX (Accord in UK) but they're really expensive new and I haven't been able to find a used one that has the options I want. Today I found one that I like, the only problem is that it's smashed. It has a salvage title but it's $11,000 and the damage isn't that bad concidering a used one would run me $28,000. It runs and drives and it has no mechanical damage at all, it needs drivers side door skins, front fenders, hood, grille, front bumper, foglights and headlights. It also needs a drivers airbag and probably various other parts.. I don't know if it's worth it but for 11k ????????????

if you want it enough that you're willing to cough up the moolah, then sure go for it.

To be honest all of those things you've mentioned needing done are all expensive to fix, and if you did opt for that, chances are that after you've fixed it, your total spendings won't be far off that of a newer, non-damaged one anyway.

It looks like it's just the more exciting/challenging way of owning one tbh, kinda like a kit car-all the fun of motoring, but ya gotta build it first.

I don't know what the regulations are in the US or anything, but in the UK it's worked on a system of categories, Cat D is minor damage write off, Cat C is intermediate, and Cat B is major. Cat A is a total write off and is not allowed to be registered again on the roads. Cat B/C write offs need a VIC test to be allowed back on the road.

Along with the things you've listed it needs, it also needs a new windscreen. If the airbags went off, then they'll also need replacing (possibly the seats too, if the airbags are in them) along with the pretensioners in the seatbelts. The ECU might also need resetting/replacing and if the chassis leg is bent then it's quite a lot of work.

This has a salvage title meaning it was written-off by an insurance company and that salvage title can never be lifted. I'm going to keep my eyes open for a 2010 demo as that would be mint and it would have a V6. The shop is going to give me a final estimate on how much it would be to fix that one!

I looked at it and it needed some pretty small, yet significant & expensive parts to make it drivable and reliable. The wiring harness was damaged in the crash along with some other part that I can't remember. To sum it all up, the electrics were ****** and it could never be repaired 100%.

The car I have now was involved in a minor front end collision prior to me purchasing it. The Carfax states that it was a minor front end collision with no airbag deployment. The dealer took the car apart for me to show me it was primarily sheet metal damage and only genuine Honda parts were used.

The TSX has some features I like, but so does my Accord (my current car).. I could just keep my car for the next 4 years through college or I could have a new car through college (2010 TSX) and have to pay for it.
