I know there are a few vague threads on festivals but that would mean bumping and other festivals have their own threads so why shouldn't the biggest festival in the world also have its own?

I just got a ticket from the few that went on resale at 9am today and this will be my second time at the festival. They were sold out by just after 10! So far I think the only confirmed acts are U2 and Muse. 40th anniversary though (and next year is a break year) so it should be awesomeeeeee. So is anybody else going? Has anybody been before?

Line-up was announced yesterday. I must say I'm rather disappointed. One of my friends who I'm going with is excited though. Best on the list for me is Rodrigo y Gabriela. http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/

Sorry if this is considered a bump - this thread was intended for all discussion regarding this year's festival.

After U2's departure due to the back injury suffered by Bono, there is obviously a lot of speculation around who will be replacing them as the Friday headliner. According to The Guardian just a few hours ago, a spokesperson said; "We won't be making any comment about who will headline on Friday. Bono has only just got out of hospital, he is not in a good way. It would really be a bit crass if we start talking about who was to replace them."

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010...astonbury-2010

Dizzee Rascal has apparently been approached by Michael Eavis, the festival's organiser and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page has been noted of making the remark (when asked by 6 Music if the band would consider replacing U2): 'I never rule anything out.'

However I was told Coldplay are to be the replacement and after a search across the internet it's all over Twitter. This does suggest it is just a rumour but you never know, maybe there have been talks with the band. Personally I am wishing for something insanely amazing because as it stands, I don't think the current line-up is any way near worthy of the 40th anniversary of Glastonbury - last year's line-up was far superior in my eyes. Nevertheless I am yet to see Coldplay live and I believe they are pretty outstanding, so I would probably settle for that. My own prediction would be between Gorillaz or a return from Kasabian.

    Oh who da man!

We're very pleased to announce that the Friday night Pyramid Stage headline slot which U2 have been forced to vacate will now be taken by Gorillaz, who called offering their services once the news about U2 had broken.

Said Michael Eavis: "This is going to be Gorilllaz' only UK festival appearance, and it'll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.

"I'm very excited about Gorillaz' show coming here because they're so open to guests and collaborations. The alchemy of Friday's show is going to be astonishing: a perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations.

"I am so grateful for the enthusiasm of the media and the whole of the music industry for their willingness and eagerness to support us in what could have been a crisis."

Said Murdoc from Gorillaz: "We're like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the Bay of Glastonbury to save the day. It was us or The Beatles and they split up years ago. The previous soldiers got pulled from duty last minute so it's up to my Plastic Beach naval cavalry to sail in and sort the battlefield out. I can assure you though, I'm bringing extra troops. Loads of them. Glastonbury will be ours…cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We're coming in…"
