I wasn't even aware he was still in it anyway - since they had like May and that other **** on the bike I thought the main characters kept getting changed when they went to new regions. Wouldn't Ash be like in his 20s by now

Cartoons don't usually grow up with time - the Simpsons being a good example, Bart and Lisa should be in their 30 now or something.
