I've seen one or two of these before so thought I'd make my own...

Give it a URL of an image (GIF, PNG or JPEG), and it will turn it into a lovely mosaic of colourful @ signs.

I just tried a small image and it went huge so that would be a good feature.

Unfortunately I can't reduce the size of the text any more (on Firefox/OSX at least).

I could just replace the @ signs with solid squares?

Yea, I'd say try replacing it with solid squares, or circles if possible.
