    Default o2 no service - down across the country?

    seems the whole countries 3g service is down if your own o2, that's what they're saying o2's official forums anyway. however i just turned my 3g off and am now using edge and its working fine (strange), this is on the iphone 3g btw

    anyone else got o2 problems? i assume you have, as its a country-wide outage

    Edge will work fine because it uses a different network, the 3G signal is a totally different signal. At CES all the journalists switch their phones to edge because the 3G signal is so overused and it works really well.

    I had trouble getting an MMS from my girlfriend earlier, that might explain it!

    Whats even more strange, I am trying to phone my girlfriend over edge, her phone is edge only, no 3G, and it can't connect? O2s network is seriously ****** up tonight. Will be asking them to deduct some money off my bill as compensation.

    My O2 service is fine, but in this area we only have "G" rather than "E" or "3G" (assuming the one G is a type of connection and not a placename for normal phone signal ) The regular phone service is apparently down in Brighton.

    The whole country can't really go down, its HIGHLY unlikely (as in, most of the core switches would have to go down first)

    @MattGarner

    2.5G = G or GPRS
    Edge somewhere in the middle
    3G = 3G
    3.5G = HSDPA

    "We currently have a fault on our network which is affecting voice and data service across parts of the Midlands, South West and Northern Ireland. We are very sorry for the inconvenience. Our engineers are on site to fix the fault as soon as possible."

    @the above, loosing 3g IS serious. the average phone user doesn't know how to turn 3g connection off, which would mean they would be stuck with no connection for hours. people were also saying 2g connections were down for certain parts of the country.
