Default Dress as a Muslim for mosque trip - or you will be branded a truant

A Catholic schoolgirl has been branded a 'truant' by her teachers after she refused to dress as a Muslim for a school field trip to a mosque.

Staff had ordered 14-year-old Amy Owen and her classmates to dress in headscarf, wear trousers or leggings and keep her arms covered for the compulsory visit to the mosque after it was arranged to promote 'community cohesion.'

Wow. I wonder what would happen if it was the other way round? As somebody commented...

It's true, I'd love to hear how the parents of Muslim girls would react if they were told they had to dress as Catholic School Girls in order to visit a Christian Church
No doubt they'd be allowed to go in Islamic clothing...

I think you will find that it is common for catholic girls/ladies to wear headscarves to church.

Phew, I was expecting a huge rant! And you never replied to my visitor message

I'm not (very) religious so I don't know what they all wear exactly, but I was thinking of a burka or those huge black sheets their wear... still, nobody should be forced or have to go and visit any other religious buildings, especially when that person is religious themselves. I don't think they do visits to Christian churches much anymore anyway, I never went to one and my brothers haven't... mind you we didn't go to mosques either because where I lived there were none. There'll probably be one there in 10 - 15 years though... maybe a few.

Regardless, what he's trying to say is that if this was a complete role reversal where Muslims had to dress alternatively. I'm sure it'd be all over the headlines... Gotta love the political correctness of this country, they say racism is bad yet they create groups & organisations for ethnic minorities. equality much, you cant join ours you gottah ave your own lol

The mum is kicking up a fuss over nothing. They're asking her to dress appropriately for a mosque, lots of places have mandatory dress codes, almost all religious buildings expect you to dress modestly.

Its their religion and if she wants to visit a mosque, she should respect that and wear appropriate clothing.

The other point, though, is that the trip was compulsory - she shouldn't have to go. :S I remember some Jehovah Witnesses not having to do hymes in assembly time in primary school, they could leave. Same happened in some RE lessons.

Errr, right... that was pointless. To enter a Mosque and have to wear the full attire only makes sense if the mosque also allows just "anyone" to enter. I'm sure it's contradictory to have a Catholic girl go to a mosque and pretend to be a Muslim. Infact, it could be considered an insult for both religions by whoever thought it up in the first place.

It's fascinating they even do trips to a Mosque :/ And how can this girl be called a truant for going on a school trip? A school trip kinda abolishes any angle you can be called a truant, the two cannot go together

Depends on the event. They don't tend to care though, provided it's smart clothes rather than casual. At baptisms (or christenings, I forget ) you can just wear a suit as a man, and a nice dress as a woman. Headscarfs are not compulsary, but I'd imagine Catholics won't be happy with full headscarfs or hijabs and burkhas, as you are entering a "sacred" place.

    This. ^^

I'm sure the majority of Muslims would wear appropriate clothing (if there were rules) to Catholic churches. It's only the extreme minority who kick a fuss over staff wearing crucifixes, England flags being waved from windows etc and the media pounce on that when the majority of them couldn't really give a toss tbh.
