It's very likely that in just a few hours STEAM for Mac will be officially released with the corresponding games, until then you can grab the download here and play Portal!, although OpenGL doesn't run as fast on Mac/Linux as DirectX does on Windows, so don't expect better or the same performance as on Windows:

Love the new UI but for some reason my downloads are even slower and news/updates pages don't load correctly.

Why's Portal free?
I dual boot Windows on my MacBook anyway and I'd rather boot into Windows to game, but this is good news for the Mac only users!
