    Default I want a dog :(

    Basically...

I have 2cats that are like the best cats ever, they're really friendly and one sleeps on my bed every night and they love the attention. I just went for a week away with my cousin and my aunt and uncle and they have these 2dogs that are golden retrievers, one like 3 and one thats 13weeks. Being with them just made me realise how much I'd like a dog. We've got enough money and space for one, and my mum works half time so has plenty of free time on her hands and so do. Plus with her sister (my auntie) they always go walking with their dogs because she wants to slim down. The only problem is that my family isn't too keen on getting one and what do we do about the cats?

Lots of households have both cats and dogs so I doubt there will be a big problem if you have both
Beg your family and give them a good enough reason why you want a dog (A)

I know families who have dogs and cats. They get along fine

    I'd love a golden retriever!

Well you could have something like a trial run before you buy the dog, I know people that've done this. Basically, they take the dog for like a day and see how it gets along.

Persuading parents shouldn't be that hard!

Tell her that its less fuss than having a cat. Tell her loads of your friends have it and they say its no hassle at all.

don't believe everything you see in cartoons. dogs and cats get along fine.

my advice is wait till your cats die (or kill them) and then get a dog. >: )

I do tell her that but shes horrible and starts this crap that we dont have enough money which is rubbish. She wont budge unless my dad agrees and he's quite open to it. The thing that annoys me is that she splashes out on a stupid tv for the kitchen so she can watch when shes cooking. Then starts this rubbish about we cant afford a dog its stupid!

i did that with my fish lol.

you could also try talking to her and explaining the good things. just tell her that you went out to your aunties and you fell in love with dogs and now you really want one.

Ben, let be tell you something first. The thought of having a dog is lovely, mans best friend and all that. In reality, they need walking numerous times a day, feeding and full attention for many hours. I assume both your parents work (could be wrong ofc) and I know you go to school so what will the dog do in the day time? Obviously, if one of your parents are out of work / work from home etc then that won't be an issue. Just to add, my dog and cat don't get on fine. My dog occasionally has scratches from when he's tried to "play" with the cat. She attacks him. I think dogs just stress out cats and if you're cats love the attention then it could be unfair. Also, they are expensive. Not just in money but in time also.
