    Default E3 tech wise

I know there's a thread in gaming but this is a different crowd and I'm sure will look at it from a different angle.

What is there tech wise that interested you from this year's E3? Personally the thing that's fascinated me most is this story from engadget:

Remember that rumor a couple years back of PS3 motion control gaming being based around a pull-apart DualShock 3? Well, perhaps it wasn't such a wild idea after all. No DualShock 3s have been harmed in the making of Move, but Joystiq has just confirmed that you can actually use the existing controller for Move gaming instead of springing for the Navigation Controller if you'd like. Obviously, you'll be one-handing the DualShock, not quite as comfortable as the Move's tiny, dedicated quasi-nunchuck, but it saves you $30 for your hassle. You'll only have access to the d-pad or four face buttons, depending on which side you choose, but interestingly, the Nav Controller's X and O buttons are redundant with the full Move wand, so hopefully this won't impact gameplay too greatly.
Basically you can hold a normal PS3 controller in a weird way and it will be an adequate substitute for the move wand. I really can't imagine how that'd work since the move (and wiimote) have things on the end which lets them point at things on the screen, without that all you have is a jazzed up accelerometer.

    Any thoughts?

The "Navigation wand" is nothing the like the main move controller. It isn't motion sensitive.

OIC. So you still need the wand thing?

Yeh, the Navigation controller is simply an add on to go with the move. Its kinda like the Wii's Nunchuck except it isn't motion sensitive.

My fav of the conference was by far the 3DS!

i think tech wise, kinect. But at the minute, its useless. It is the beginning of future gaming imo, but is far away from being used for core gamers. Once you have something which can read where you want to go, without the use of controllers (take Gamer, the movie, for example) then that is where this tech will come into use

Yeh I agree. Kinect looks alright, but I'm not willing to give up my controller just yet.

I'm williing to give up the controller slightly, but it will never dissapear fully. The lag between actions and their processing and then their display is quite long (100-150ms) especially when Move is only around 28ms (iirc) - MS should have took the path of the original console and be willing to make a loss (not saying they aren't already) in order to attract more people, a seperate processor was disregarded for the Kinect itself due to cost reasons but a small ARM processor inside the Kinect unit itself could have maybe made all the difference.

I'm confused by Move, I'm not sure whether I should love it or hate it. People are calling it "the Wii done right" but to me that's all it really is, a replication of the Wii. I can't really say much more about it since I don't know anything else!

Agreed. It's funny how Sony and Microsoft are always fighting it out, when Nintendo just comes waltzing in and shows them how to really do it. Nintendo brought in motion-sensitivity into the console world, then Sony followed... Makes you wonder when Microsoft and Sony will bring out another feature that was obviously thought up because Nintendo used the initiative first

Nothing really amazed me other than the 3DS. Kinect and Move aren't that amazing. 3D gaming is new, Kinect and Move aren't new in a concept sense :/
