My friend was jumped (basically attacked) today outside the co-op before school.. I hear he was bleeding in several places, he was taken to the hospital asap... basically mugged. Although he doesn't carry his phone.

What can he expect to happen in legal terms?

Very little? I imagine CCTV will be looked into and they'll be asked for a description, which the police may use and ask witnesses to come forward. But until they catch the person (which is quite unlikely may I add), nothing will happen

I can totally understand yours/their pain in this scenario as it's totally unfair but what else can be done.

I've never been mugged or robbed, thankfully. Learn a martial art, would help your friend's confidence and of course he'd be able to help himself in a situation like that. I want to learn something.
