pgmr | resources and networking for web developers & programmers

Almost a year ago, I started working on a project called developr. You can see one of threads I posted here. It got a pretty big response. I had hundreds of BETA applications and lots of people were interested in helping me create the site.

I've decided to restart this project under the name pgmr instead. pgmr is a social network/resource site that brings web developers, web designers, programmers, etc. together and gives them all the tools they need to build websites. In addition, pgmr's collaboration and networking tools help make communication much easier.

Some features/ideas of the top of my head:

    - Profiles: So other can see your sites, the sites you work on, add you as a friend etc.

    - Messaging: PM system, IM chat, collab tools

    - Forum

    - Free webhost: add other users on the site and designate roles/permissions. This way all your staff can help build the site with the help of pgmr's simple interface

    - Generators: ex: CSS layout generator, favicon generator, file converters, code simplifyers, etc.

    - Widget system: users can create widgets using HTML, CSS, and JS using pgmr's tools then add them to the directory of widgets. The widget is hosted on pgmr. Other users can use widgets by adding the hosted pgmr code to their site.

    - Tutorials: Users submit tutorials, can view tutorials sorted by ratings, views, etc.

    - Point system: When you contribute to the site, you earn points. Ex: for every site using your widget you get 5 points, for each tutorial upvote you get 10 points. Users can donate points to members who contribute a lot/help them. You can use these points to buy extra bandwith, extra disk space, domain names, etc. You also get points for logging in everyday, etc. BETA testers and volunteers will get rewarded with points as well.

Any other ideas are welcome. I believe my idea is pretty original and has lots of potential. Everything is custom coded (no scripts) which attracts even more users. If you're interested in helping me out with any of the following, PM me:

    - Graphics (Designs, site images, etc.)
    - Hosting (If someone has a dedi they don't need or runs a hosting site and could donate to this project, that would be great)
    - Web Development (Coding layouts, site maintenance)
    - Tutorial Authors (To help start the site off with some tutorials)
    - PHP Developers (General consultation, occasional coding)
    - JS/jQuery/AJAX Developers (To help add effects, etc. to the site)
    - Flash Developers (Help me with things like interactive ads, media players, etc.)

This actually sounds like a good idea if you're skilled enough.
The points system could be quite decent if you get it working well.
I think you should focus on collaboration features and a way for designers/developers to rate each other and display their ratings on their profiles so they can show it to potential clients. I had some more ideas but I forgot them, I'll post again later if I remember
Keep posting updates as this project progresses and if I like where it's going I'll offer my assistance on the PHP side and write some tutorials

Thanks for the support. I'm just waiting on the layout so I can begin development.

    Other features:
    - Freelancing: Find a freelancer, become a freelancer
    - Ratings System: Rate a website, rate tutorials, etc.
    - Portfolio

Same concept, different structure. Theirs is more geared towards discussion/networking while Developr is more geared towards being a resource/web development site.
