I don't know how to get a pet and I can't find any guides on google, can anyone tell me how to tame an animal and make it my pet

Please tell me you're playing a hunter.

If you are playing a hunter, you have to painfully do level 1-10 without a pet, then you get a series of quests to tame three beasts depending on your race. Once you've done those quests, you can tame a pet.

By cataclysm he means an expansion (but lots of changes affect those who don't get the xpac too) but you don't need to worry about that.
