Default How long did it take you to learn to drive?

As the title says, how long and how many lessons a week did you have? Are there any books or anything you recommend?

My "new" '08 plate Peugeot 107 will be sitting on the drive waiting for me when we get back from holiday and dad's booking my first set of lessons

Providing I pass my test on the 18 August, it'll have taken me little over 6 months to pass (jings!), with a lesson a week (with an odd week off here and there where my instructor has been off/on holiday).

I definitely recommend a Highway Code, plus the official DSA/Highway Code Theory Test DVD with questions + hazard perception clips.
I used the AA Theory Test app for iPhone to practice my questions though, I'm sure there'll be an Android app for it too.

It took me just under 2 months from start to finish. I had 20 hours worth of lessons and passed first time.

Make sure you pick up a copy of driving test success as this will really help with your theory / hazard perception. You might also want to find a place called 2pass as it offers really good advice for learner drivers.

About 3 months with a 1.5 hour lesson per week.

Just get a CD for your theory and do a few practice papers - learn the answers to the ones you get wrong. Do a load of hazard perception practices. Some people find it very easy and others struggle with the hazard perception.

If you've got time, reading the highway code would be a bonus, but I don't know anyone who actually has lol.

    Thanks guys.

Had my first 2 hour lesson on Friday and was up to 35Mph, only stalled once, did a lot of pulling up by the curb and a bit of clutch control going down and up the large bendy hill down the road and general driving about. Got another on Thursday.

I think I had 20-25 lessons with a 6 month break in between. Started in April 09, started again in February '10 I think and passed in April. Probably around 4/5 months where I actually had lessons. God knows lol.
