Default Far cry 2 - Far too big?

Okay its an old game but a while back I got Far cry 1 and 2 on steam as a package deal. I already had the first 1 on disc but it was very cheap.

Far cry 2 - the first problem is that its simply not far cry. It's just using the name far cry really as it has nothing to do with the first game, no creatures etc. I'm not complaning though as I like both the games.

The main issue with me is Far Cry 2 just seems 2 big. Most of the time your driving, walking etc from one place to another only to have to go back. It's interesting at first but it doesn't take long for it to become far too repetitive for me.

To me it shows that having a big map doesn't just make a good game - you need to try and make it interesting. Finding a way to make it not feel repetitive is the key. Another thing with Far cry is that when you go into an enemy area - the enemies respawn later - I suppose it would be silly if you could just unlock them all as you may end up with hardly anyone to fight.

All in all the game is decent but far too long.

The only problem I have with Far Cry 2 is the fact it takes literal hours to get from one side of the map to the other. The map isn't big, it's just that the game's design (based around immersion) doesn't allow for fast-travel.
