well basically, i know its to small and looks crap as but i thought i wud give it a try so here it is

The border and bars are too big, its good for a first attempt I suppose.

Might be better if you pick a colour scheme and stick to it, rather than have all the various colours that you currently have.

Picking a style for the boxes and sticking to it for consistency will often make it look better, and put some gaps between the boxes too.

Oh and, I wouldn't use the striped pattern for the main content box as I presume there will be text in there and it may make it less aesthetically pleasing for those who are reading it.

I know you didn't ask for critique, but I think some of those considerations would help.
