    Default External Hard Drives

    Hey,

I am looking to get an external hard drive for my families computer. Their current HDD is only 320gb - however I have looked at a few that will last for a few years - even if they get a new pc.

    I have found:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/149457 - Seagate Free Agent - 500gb - 7,200rpm - Desktop - £48.41
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176613 - Buffalo JustStore - 1,000gb - Not sure on rpm - Desktop - £56.80
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200957 - Buffalo Ministation Lite - 500gb - Portable - £56.06

It is UNLIKELY the hard drive will change places much - it is really going to be used as a back up drive - where I will set up an automatic back up. I don't really want to spend anything more than the ones I have posted (so £60 really I guess). As long as it is quite fast, and will do the job it should be fine.

    Suggestions?

That's more for portable use. This kid wants one to just sit at his desktop. Seagate are very good, but I've had good experiences with the Western Digital MyBook, they're pretty good and cheap now. Plus they look amazing.

This kid Yeah I think it will stay around on my desktop most of the time - although it doesn't really matter if it is portable or not. The most it will ever do is come to my office to my computer - although that is once a year lol

Will check the stuff out - thanks everyone. Will +Rep who I can.

Actually I found that buying a 3.5" sata drive and then a to USB converter separately for usually only around $15 or so is considerably cheaper than a external off the rack.
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
