    Default Windows 7 Upgrade Requirements

You love my threads really :L

    ---

I am going to get my sister to upgrade to Windows 7 on her (crap) laptop. It isn't anything special, but it is annoyingly slow, has too many problems for my to bother dealing with. So I realise it will be faster for my to format the hdd and put Windows 7 on it

    Her specification is:
    - Intel Celeron T1300 @ 1.66GHz
    - 1.0gb RAM
    - Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family
    - 66.7GB HDD

    --

So yeah it isn't any special, it is on XP atm and is boringly slow. She uses it for work mainly, although does go on facebook or whatever.

So I know it WOULD work, but would be a worthwhile upgrade from Windows XP?

    Cheers

It would work but a clean install of XP would make a bigger difference.

We don't have the disc or code to do that though - and it is more expensive to get xp again

Would it be slower on 7??

Yeah because those specs are suited for a decent XP computer whereas they are the bare minimum for 7. 1GB RAM is the minimum and Aero would have to be turned off.

Aero is the theme that is default within the Windows 7 OS. You can turn Aero off to improve performance if it is running older or slower hardware.

    Aero On:

    Aero Off:

The split screen feature is known as snap or Aero snap if you may wish. I believe that still works with Aero on or off.

How easy is it to change parts in a laptop? (RAM)

The laptop is a 15.6in Compaq thing

    Thanks very much Matt.
Go on www.crucial.com/uk on the laptop and it'll tell you exactly what RAM you need to buy, and usually on laptops you unscrew 1 screw and take a ~7x5cm panel off the bottom of the laptop, unclip the RAM and clip the new RAM back in.
