Default UK Grime > US Rap.

I just started listening to UK Grime (namely Devlin), and it's already a lot better than most US Rap (with the exception of a few YouTube'ers I like). Sad that they aren't heard more.

    Which do you prefer?

I mainly prefer Grime as to US Rap because of the beats and increased focus on the background beat which usually go well with the flow of the rapper, whereas the US Rap is more focused on the Rap.

    I've noticed that.

Most of the mainstream US rap artists use very similar beats that are all pretty monotonous and have little meaning towards the song. Really detracts from the music quality of the song, which is already lacking.

Yes, and in some cases they have used other artists' material.

Thinking about it yes, most Grime artists are Independant and Unsigned so it's that case over here aswell. ><

Where are you getting this? Unless you've literally only heard Young Money and neglected the actual big names in the game there's no chance of the beats being called monotonous, and certainly not in comparison to grime beats...

Yeah that's called sampling, which aside from being a far harder job than most people think also stops tunes from just being a load of random beeping noises and 808s

I'm more than happy to accept that different people have different opinions on music, but really you have to have a very limited experience of hiphop across the pond to believe that grime actually has a better overall sound, radio rap is not the only thing that comes out of the US lol
